“THE NAKED ARTIST”
The Mornington Peninsula Painting and Drawing Group will present their bi- annual exhibition at Oak Hill Community Gallery, 100 Tyabb Road, Mornington from August 1-25th.
The exhibition will be opened by Jane Alexander, Director of the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery at 3.30pm on Sunday August 1st. The public is very welcome to attend and enjoy the art, refreshments and live music.
This art group’s history goes back to the 70’s when a keen group of artists, led by Richard Riordan, combined to share their love of drawing and painting.
Prominent artist Maidie Mc Gowan also joined and was a great inspiration to many budding artists.
The group gradually became very successful so became an incorporated association, and elected multi prize winning artists Suzanne Keppert and more recently Cheryl Moffitt as inspiring cordinators and tutors.
Primarly a self help group, the members of the group range from beginners to accomplished artists and diversity of skills and styles engenders a great spirit of generosity which has elevated the drawing group’s strength and has now channelled itself into the running of workshops and classes which include a basic art class for those needing assistance.
This exhibition expresses the qualities of sharing and support that chacterise the attitude of the members.
The model is naked for life drawing classes of course, but once a mark is made on the paper, the ARTIST is naked
Many works displayed will have been completed during the class, while others will have had further work done before being presented as a finished piece. This gives the viewers an overall picture of how artists work progressively with individual interpretations apparent.
Today the membership of about 40, has many very successful artists known for their prize winning work. The exhibition continues til August 25th and all works are for sale.
The Gallery is next to the Mornington Rose Garden and The Mornington Regional Gallery and is open Tuesday – Sunday, 11am – 4pm.
